What happens when a major developer of transport infrastructure makes a commitment to integrating contemporary art into their projects?
We’ll find out when around 30,000 commuters per day get to experience Wynscreen, Sydney’s newest site for art in public space, dedicated to high quality, curated moving image artworks.
Wynscreen’s recent opening is the culmination of a long period of work by the creative and cultural agency Cultural Capital for Transport for NSW (TfNSW). TfNSW planned the major art site as an integrated part of the Clarence Street entrance to Wynyard Station within the new connective tunnel between Wynyard and Barangaroo.
The twenty three metre long, curved and uniquely shaped LED screen will showcase the works of artists curated by Cultural Capital specifically for this project. Artistic innovation and audience engagement is at the core of the works chosen from renowned and emerging artists.
In planning and developing Wynscreen, TfNSW has made a generous commitment to Sydney’s cultural life. Globally, the move to bring quality art into the public domain grows in its scale and ambition. With Wynscreen, TfNSW has put itself at the leading edge of this movement. The decision to take the most contemporary of approaches with moving image art is courageous and adds an entirely new layer to the art freely available to Sydney’s citizens and tourists.
Cultural Capital is thrilled to have had the opportunity to curate and manage this large and complex cultural project and encourage you to visit Wynscreen to experience this new art site for yourself.
